Winter cabin time

I didn't get to shoot much during my semester of classes, but heading up to the cabin for some relaxing days and some good photo time before christmas was a great stress reliever. I noticed a car in the woods near the cabin which I had never seen before. Without the leaves on the trees you can see quite a ways in the woods so I headed in to check it out. There is an old abandoned car near an old abandoned foundation of what looked to be a cabin at one time. It looks like it is from the early 1900's but I will do some research into exactly what car it is and what year. Pretty cool!

Vollum Family

I got to head out to East Union to take some pictures of my aunt, uncle and cousins. They live on a beautiful piece of property so we took a walk around and used all of the great backdrops that are the property. I may have to go back to get some still shots. It was fun hanging out with them and capturing some moments for them. Here is a quick slideshow.

Amanda Senior Pictures

As I was all bundled up in my winter coat and gloves, Amanda braved the near freezing temperatures to get in a great senior shoot. We originally scheduled it for Saturday morning but we woke up to a blanketing of snow, which defeated the purpose of the nice fall surroundings so we tried again on Sunday morning. It was a fun shoot and I think we turned out some great shots. Thanks Amanda, for braving the elements and making the pictures look like it was a perfect 65 degree fall day!

Jaida Turning Two

My good friends Jim and Jill wanted some nice photos of their beautiful daughter Jaida as she is turning 2. We set up in their house where Jaida would be comfortable and she was loving it. She didn't want to be done taking pictures so I kept snapping away as she said "more photo". It was a great time and we got some great shots of Jaida. She was having fun and was posing so naturally! Here are some shots of Jaida.

Special Olympics Camp 2009

I can't tell you enough how great the Special Olympics are. I spent a week at the annual sports camp on the campus of St. Ben's. I, along with good friend Andy Lucey, did the basketball training for the camp. I also spent the entire week doing all of the photography for the camp. If you have never volunteered for any of the events that the special olympics hold, you need to. You will come away from the experience with a renewed and refreshed outlook on life. The excitement, the passion, the pure enjoyment, the sportsmanship, the sincere caring for one another and the love of life cannot be compared to any other experience you can have. Here is a shortened version of the slideshow that I put together for the banquet at the end of camp. The full version is about 17 minutes long and contains so many great photos. You can see all of the photos on the photography website at www.mattvollumphotography.com. If you want to volunteer with the special olympics go to www.specialolympicsminnesota.org. They have many different opportunities. I guarantee that you will have a great experience whatever you do with them. Enjoy the slideshow!

I was lucky enough to meet the Baker family and friends and photograph the 90th birthday of Wes. What a huge crowd, there were 200 people in attendance...I don't think I could find 200 people for any party of mine!! It was a great day and I enjoyed meeting all the friendly people. Thanks Wes and congratulations on such a great party!!

Enjoy this slideshow. I do have high resolution DVDs if you are interested in purchasing one. Click here to purchase or go to my website.

Xochitl Daisy Shoot

A few cabins down from Kim's cabin was a great patch of daisies that Kim had discovered so we took the opportunity to get some shots of Xochitl playing in the middle of them.
